Would you like your academic career to reach an international level and study at a top US or UK university, such as Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Cambridge or Oxford? Your dream can come true with the Bakala scholarship!

Who do we support?

You may apply for our scholarship if you have been registered at one of our partner universities during the last 3 years (or last year for the Graduate Institute) and were a resident of Switzerland for the last 5 years.

In order to consider each of the candidate’s specific potential and ambitions, the only condition that applies to our scholarships is academic achievement. We do, however, encourage candidates to participate actively in charitable or social activities for the benefit of the community whenever possible.

Partner universities

Our scholarships are for students or research fellows of the following swiss universities:

Total annual budget for the scholarships is approximately CHF 200,000.- Selected scholars will receive an annual contribution ranging from CHF 10’000 to CHF 30’000. Distribution of the funding for each student depends on the candidates’ needs and study plans. The main aim is to cover tuition fees and/or living expenses at the foreign university. Support will be provided for one or more semesters at the foreign university as part of a Swiss Master or Doctorate or a complete Master or Doctorate at the foreign university.

Funding can be provided for a maximum of three years. In view of Zdenek Bakalas’ studies at Berkeley University (California) and at the Dartmouth College (Tuck School of Business, New Hampshire), our foundation wishes to support students admitted to these institutions. However this does not constitute a preference from our side or an exclusion of other possible universities.
